The romantic coastal area of Kenya has a history stretching back over 1,000 years. This is where the Swahili language originated, as Arabs and the local populace intermarried, spreading across the continent of Africa. With a 480 kilometer coastline stretching from Lamu up in the North to Shimoni in the south and adjacent to the Pemba channel defining the border between Kenya and Tanzania. A spectacular coral reef abounds, whose waters below teem with marine life, runs along the palm-fringed coastline, comprising of a huge diversity of birdlife occupies the mangrove forests or overhanging cliffs.

The coral island of Mombasa, whose dominating feature is the Old Town and Harbour, at whose entrance lies the imposing Fort Jesus – built in the 16th century by the Portugese, measures just over 14sq km, less than five square miles – a busy, frantic place, packed with a variety of things to see and do. !Mombasa is a true melting pot of cultures! On its North and South mainland you will find a selection of hotels and beach resorts. Deep-sea fishing, snorkelling, scuba-diving, dolphin-watching ‘dhow ‘ trips and so much more will fill up your holiday whilst in Mombasa. Distance 200 kms 2 hrs drive.

DAY 01: NAIROBI COUNTY – MOMBASA

On arrival at moi international airport or SGR Mombasa terminus, met and transfer to the respective Mombasa hotel. use of room is not guaranteed before noon.  Remainder of the day at leisure. overnight at the BEACH. Dinner and overnight at JACARANDA INDIAN OCERAN BEACH RESORT & SPA.

DAY 02: WASINI ISLAND & KISITE MARINE PARK

Depart: 06.00 hrs North Coast,  07.00 hrs South Coast      Return: late afternoon

A day of ultimate pleasure started off with a sail on a swahili dhow, visit to at Marine Park where you can snorkel or goggle and finally a gargantuan seafood lunch.

After an early breakfast drive towards South coast past Diani to Shimoni Village. On arrival enjoy a classic light Swahili breakfast of traditional sweet bread & fresh fruit with Arabic coffee or Swahili tea in the famous Shimoni caves. At 0900hrs to catch the best tide option, board a converted authentic Lamu dhow & in comfort with space to stretch out & relax depart for Kisite National Marine Park for snorkeling & sustainable, responsible dolphin spotting – 90%+ dolphin success rate ! Kisite Marine Park is the best underwater park on the Kenya Coast. Mineral water for guests on dhow is free of charge. For snorkelers masks ( + limited prescription masks) & snorkels, fins & and full diving gear for divers is provided. Non swimming guests can enjoy the underwater using glass bottomed viewers from the accompanying support dinghy. The Dhow sails at some point during the day – traditionally rigged it’s a ‘back-in-time’ experience.

  • Bowls of marinated fish and coconut biting.
  • Freshly prepared whole crab steamed in ginger – the famous Charlie Claw’s speciality.
  • Barbequed fish fresh from the fishermen’s’ baskets with Swahili sauce, coconut rice & chapatti – a traditional Wasini Island celebration dish.

  • Arabic coffee and simsim – sesame sweets.

 

For non-seafood eaters we prepare as an alternative to crab & fish:

  • Fresh traditional vegetable soup followed by barbequed chicken or Swahili vegetarian.

After lunch guests have the following options:  to snooze on the beds under the shade in the private gardens & cool off in the Lazy Lagoon Pool – the only pool on the island, enormous & natural; or visit the nearby Wasini village – an authentic fishing community with Arab coastal style houses, ancient tombs and mosques – and the Women’s Boardwalk community project supported by Charlie Claw’s – a spectacular coral garden & into the mangroves walk of discovery. An early evening departure ensures time to freshen up before supper. Dinner & overnight at JACARANDA INDIAN OCERAN BEACH RESORT & SPA.

Please note; 

  • Non A/C Vehicles are used for transfers in cities and on Safari in Kenya
  • Luggage limit of one soft bag per person during travel in Kenya. Hard cases should be avoided as they cannot fit in safari vehicles.
  • Baggage allowance for domestic flights is 15kgs per person including hand luggage. Soft-sided luggage or duffels are preferable to hard luggage for storage on safari vehicles and aircrafts used within East Africa. Large suitcases of dimensions greater than 24″x 17″x 7″ are impossible to store in vehicles and on aircraft and should not be used. (Baggage and personal effects are at owner’s risk throughout the tour and baggage insurance for members is strongly advised).
  • The rate includes accommodation based on the hotels and lodges mentioned in the program using standard rooms. Please be advised that the maximum singles the lodges can give is 4. The rest are charged as doubles.
  • ALTERNATIVE ACCOMMODATION: In the case of a confirmed booking being re-routed for whatever reason we will endeavour to move guests to an equivalent level property subject to availability and with prior agreement with the operator/agent and we reserve the right to do so in the best interests of all concerned

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Contract variations

The contractual costs mentioned above in this agreement are subject to change without prior notice; however, every effort will be made to maintain them. In the event of a change in Government Taxes or Levies affecting the rates mentioned herein, Campofrio Safaris has the right to pass on any increases to our Partners or Clients.

Payment Policy

A deposit of 35% is required at the time of booking.  The balance of 65% is due 45 days before commencement of the tour program.  If the reservation is made within 45 days of departure the whole amount must be paid at the time of confirmation.

Children Policy:

Children between the age of 3 and 12 years

  • Pays 60% of the adult rate if sharing a room with two adults
  • Pays 80% of the adult rate if sharing a room with another children
  • Pays 100% of the adult rates if sharing a room with one adult
  • No discount on Holiday and other supplements

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations must be received in writing. As all suppliers charge cancellation fees, they are in turn passed on to us.

Reservations that are cancelled, reduced in length of stay or reduced in number of occupancy are subject to cancellation and no-show fees. Following is the scale for cancellation charges:

  • 35% if cancelled between 45 and 35days prior to arrival
  • 50% if cancelled between 34 and 15 days prior to arrival.
  • 100% if cancelled 14 days and 24hours prior to arrival

Itinerary Changes:

Although every effort is made to adhere to schedules, it should be noted that the hoteliers in East Africa may be obliged to occasionally change routes on safaris as dictated by changing conditions.

Such conditions may be brought about by seasonal rainfall on bush tracks, airfields and in game areas, by game migrations from one region to another, or airline or other booking problems, etc. Campofrio Safaris will communicate with you for such tour itinerary/tour program or accommodation changes
